For all his piety, Johann Sebastian Bach celebrated the strength of his faith with the most unbounded joy when he put pen to paper on his ‘Magnificat’. He assembled the largest orchestra the church could muster, placed the finest soloists and choristers above it, and gifted them music of eye-widening majesty and power. Just as radiant as Mozart’s ‘Exsultate Jubilate’, but a whole lot louder.
