We place a high value on work with the very young. We aim to inspire in children the love of music and the confidence to stay involved with music throughout life, whether as a participant, a performer, an audience member or all three. We're also actively engaged developing music leadership skills in early years staff, and in developing early years facilitation skills in musicians.
In The Greggs Children's Room
We lead fourteen sessions a week day for children and their parent/carers. Sessions are friendly and welcoming, with a mixture of structured and improvised music making activities using songs, dances, all kinds of instruments, puppets, soft toys, lycra and children's own ideas. As well as having lots of fun, you'll take home songs and musical games you can explore further at home.
Across the North East
Groups can become involved with the programme by engaging musicians from our team to come and work in their settings, whether they are toddler groups, playgroups or nurseries. We also offer bespoke 1, 2 or 3 term cascade packages, designed to meet your setting's needs; including training for parents, carers and setting staff and CD resources as well as having our musicians work with children alongside your staff.
We're currently working with groups of settings across County Durham as part of our Access to Excellence Music Manifesto Pathfinder programme, aiming to embed music at the heart of the Early Years environment. We're also working through Sure Starts and Family Learning teams in a number of local authority areas right across the North East.
Resources
We've produced three CDs of songs and music designed for use in early settings and at home.
