Early Years is currently a main focus for workforce development at The Sage Gateshead. The Early Years programme provides structured ways into musical discovery for pre-school children, whilst training Early Years workers and musicians to take the work forward independently, enabling everyone to have fun. To meet the needs of this rapidly expanding programme, The Sage Gateshead has devised a training programme for those musicians who are particularly interested in working with under 5s and their families.
Early Years Music Leader Training
The first criterion for entry into the training programme is a period of volunteering, which will enable musicians to understand the range of possibilities and the areas of their own expertise which may require development. When there are vacancies in the traineeship and apprenticeship programme, volunteers may be recruited as trainees or apprentices depending on their level of experience and expertise. The progression in acquiring the skills required for becoming an effective early Years and Community musician is modelled on The Sage Gateshead Community Music Traineeship and Apprenticeship.
