The last ten years has seen an unprecedented expansion in the range and quality of community music activities and demand for high quality leaders has increased dramatically. In response to this, The Sage Gateshead, the University of Sunderland and Gateshead College have designed and created the first degree programme of its kind in the UK. The innovative BA (Hons) Community Music programme is aimed at anyone who is musically skilled, from school leavers to professional musicians, who want to put their talents to work with people in a broad range of settings. The Folk and Traditional Music BA (Hons.) is a practical degree programme delivered by recognised performers, composers and musicologists. It was developed in partnership with the University of Newcastle. Click here for further information.
A partnership with all six Universities for the North East, funded by HEFCE, is building an exciting range of collaborations for the benefit of students and teachers alike. Current and future projects embrace the wider curriculum and include partnerships with disciplines as diverse as social policy, software engineering, education and digital animation as well as music in all its aspects.
