Practitioner Development at all levels is at the heart of The Sage Gateshead's vision for brining about a lasting change in the musical life of the North of England.
We offer training and professional development opportunities for people working in all aspects of music education and community music, and across genres, as well as devising and delivering specific training for professionals working in other sectors.
"I didn't think I would learn things that would completely change the way I teach. 'Ways into Workshops' taught me to enjoy, have fun with singing, and that it doesn't have to be so formal and tense." (participant)

The Sage Gateshead is a consortium partner of Sing Up, the Music Manifesto National Singing Programme. The aim of Sing Up is for every school-age child to take part in high quality singing everyday and the programme is funded by £40m by the DCSF until 2011.
Sing Up is led by a consortium: Youth Music is lead partner, and manages the Funded Programmes and Sing Up Awards Strands. Faber Music leads on the Sing Up resources, including the Song Bank, AMV BBDO lead on our marketing and branding and the Workforce Development Strand is led by The Sage Gateshead.
The Sage Gateshead's aim is to deliver training to 35,000 leaders and 17,500 young leaders. We fulfill this through our Area Leaders, the Sing Up Training Programme and Vocal Force (a strategic programme to impact on singing leaders in 60 specific areas). We also investigate accreditation, evaluation, research and quality of vocal leadership.
