The Sage Gateshead offers both bespoke and off the shelf training for teachers at all levels and in all areas of the curriculum. We work in close partnership with the region's Music Services, school clusters and individual schools to develop specific training to suit needs.
We believe in encouraging the musician inside every teacher, and all our INSET programmes involve creative music making and sharing of experience. Our sessions are led by outstanding musicians and educators with specific, practical tools for delivering the curriculum at its broadest, and getting the best out of students. INSET both in and out of school includes:
- The Turning of the Year is a project focussing on the traditional music, dance and song of the British Isles celebrating the Midsummer and Midwinter Solstice, suitable for KS 2/ KS 3;
- A Creative Introduction to Javanese Gamelan and Shadow Puppetry Residential;
- 4 Corners: 'Pictures at a World Exhibition' music and dance for KS1 / KS2 teachers. Music, dance and storytelling with an emphasis upon classroom composition and world music repertoire;
- Access to Excellence Programme: training for teachers and community musicians such as Vocal Union training for leadership of primary whole school singing and choir leadership for choirs in school communities both primary and secondary schools.
