Leadership Development

We're committed to developing inspiring, knowledgeable, flexible leaders; our training programmes focus on helping musicians develop management and strategic leadership skills alongside teaching, facilitation and performance.

Leadership Training

We run two twelve week leadership courses a year for musicians and managers starting in September. Topics covered include strategic planning, staff development, feedback and evaluation, conflict resolution, communication, presentation and leadership qualities.

Mentor Training

We run a programme of mentor training for community musicians and music educators, which is also open to practitioners for other sectors who wish to use mentoring in their work. We offer a series of half day and whole day training events which leads to an understanding of mentoring and reflective practice. The training is led by experienced mentors and the programme is supported by Peter Renshaw, an eminent mentor with international experience.

Ways into Workshops

We run regular Ways into Workshops weekends in partnership with More Music in Morecambe. This popular weekend is aimed at music teachers in schools or with Music Services; community musicians, community artists who intend to work with music, and musicians new to music leadership. Ways into Workshops facilitates people across the region to explore different approaches to music leadership, curriculum music and community music. Ways into Workshop leaders have included: Katherine Zeserson (Director of Learning & Participation, The Sage Gateshead), Pete Moser (Director, More Music in Morecambe), Ken Patterson (former Advisory Teacher for Music and primary music specialist), Amanda Quigley (Liverpool based community musician and dancer, Steve Lewis (improvising musician and psychotherapist based in Lancaster).
