The Mc Master review recommends mentoring for all senior leaders in the arts

In July 2007 James Purnell, the Secretary of State for Culture, asked Sir Brian McMaster, former Director of the Edinburgh International Festival, to undertake a review to report on:

How the system of public sector support for the arts can encourage excellence, risk-taking and innovation
How artistic excellence can encourage wider and deeper engagement with the arts by audiences
How to establish a light touch and non-bureaucratic method to judge the quality of the arts in the future

The report was published on 11th January 2008. There's some interesting discussion about innovation and the importance of risk taking in the arts. Brian Mc Master says "It's essential to recognise the role of the individual in stimultaing innovation and encouraging risk taking." He suggests that mentoring is one of the right support structures to enable leaders to flourish.

Select Committee Report endorses Creative Partnerships

The Education and Skills Committee published its report today on Creative Partnerships and the Curriculum. The report strongly urges the Government to take creativity seriously and place it at the heart of learning.

The Select Committee appreciates the central role that creativity plays in enhancing the educational experience for young people. It recommends that Creative Partnerships must aspire to provide opportunities and share best practice with all schools and young people in England. It states there is a need for a nationally agreed framework owned by the DCSF, which recognises progress in the development of young people.

The recommendations also stress the importane of CPD with specific reference to reciprocal mentoring between teachers and creative practitioners.
