The Sage Gateshead, working in partnership with Lawnmowers Independent Theatre Company, has developed the Music Spark Programme to look at developing employment opportunities for adults with learning difficulties in Gateshead within The Sage Gateshead. This unique and innovative idea enables the trainees to develop their own creativity and gain experience in the work place.
The trainees work in many areas of The Sage Gateshead including the Customer Service Team, ExploreMusic - a music library resource - and the housekeeping team, as well as being involved with activities in The Sage Gateshead's Learning and Participation programme. The Music Spark trainees also work alongside our Customer Service Team hosting the Krokodile Klub events (discos for people with learning difficulties and their friends) and have hosted their own event at The Sage Gateshead - 'The Music Spark Show' - at which they also performed their creative work.
"Susan tells us what she does in the cafe. It's the first time she's done any work like that. She's never had a job before. She pointed the cafe out to us on Tuesday night. I thought it was a works canteen not the main thing. It's great to think she's doing that, being at the fore front," (Relative of Music Spark Trainee).
