The Foundation Studio offers children aged between 5 and 7 the exciting opportunity to learn to play a bowed string instrument.
Small group instrumental lessons (currently violin and cello) are supported by vibrant musicianship classes. The morning ends with an ensemble session where the children experience the joy of playing together as a large group. Now running into its' third year, the project aims to deliver musical training which integrates movement, singing , improvisation and instrumental learning, allowing the children to develop a repertoire of basic musical skills as well as a firm technical grounding on their instrument.
Sessions run weekly on a Saturday morning, from 10am ' 12.30pm, at The Sage Gateshead. Fees for 2009/10 season is £200 per term for 10 sessions (subject to change for 10/11), and financial assistance may be available towards the cost of fees.
Children (who will be in their school Reception year) can take part in a term of musicianship classes starting after Easter, prior to starting their instrumental tuition in September 2010. For information and to register your interest, please contact Jon Bethell, Young Musicians Programme Coordinator, at jonathan.bethell@thesagegateshead.org.
