This new programme for 5-7 year olds will bridge the gap for the young musician between our Early Years (under 5s) provision and the Weekend School or the Open Studio (for slightly older children). It is devised to complement our Planet Music Family Music Making sessions, which we already run in school holidays for this age group.
Foundation Studio
Foundation Studio is devised to complement our Planet Music Family Music Making sessions, which we already run in school holidays for this age group. It offers a great opportunity to learn how to play an instrument and experience the joy of music making with others. In 2008/09 the Foundation Studio will be held at The Sage Gateshead on Saturday mornings during term time and will focus on string instruments, offering violin, viola, cello and mini-bass training.
Students will play in a string ensemble, learn their instrument in small groups and participate in a music and movement session that includes singing, rhythm and aural training.
No previous experience is needed, but places are limited and a level of commitment will be expected. Taster sessions will be offered in June to assess natural ability and decide which of the available instruments would be suitable for each student to learn. Students unable to buy their own instruments will be able to use one from our instrument bank.
