Jambone is the exciting and vibrant regional Jazz Big Band.
Jambone is an exciting 20 piece big band and creates a fantastic sound comprising of three strong horn sections and a driving rhythm section, and offers thrilling live performances.
Trained by Dave Hignett and Shaune Eland with opportunities to work with worldwide guest Jazz artists, like Bob Mintzer, Guy Barker, Tim Garland, Marvin Stamm and the Jazz Jamaica Allstars. The late Sir John Dankworth also worked with Jambone while appearing at The Sage Gateshead as part of the annual Gateshead International Jazz Festival in March 2008. Most recently Jambone collaborated with Andy Sheppard, Jazz Saxophonist and composer, ending the project with an inspiring performance, as part of The Sage Gateshead's 5th Birthday celebrations.
Jambone brings together the talented young Jazz musicians in the North East and Cumbria. Members are aged 13-19 and usually play at the standard of grade 7/8 and above. Jambone rehearsals take place fortnightly on Sunday afternoons at The Sage Gateshead and throughout the year the ensemble enjoys a short residential course. Group work allows members to hone their playing as a section and create a tight big band sound. Members also have the opportunity to develop their improvisation skills.
The fee for the full 10/11 season is £370, this includes the residential course and bursaries are available through the David Goldman Award Scheme. (Any tours would be charged as extra.)
