Do you enjoy playing or singing and want to develop your skills with other like-minded musicians from across the North of England?
If so, Open Studio is for you!
Open Studio
This new programme offers a great opportunity for young people who want to make music with other like-minded musicians and develop their skills as players or singers. Students will play/sing the music that they're excited by, and will also have the chance to discover new styles. Under the guidance of expert tutors the programme will offer ensemble playing/singing in all music genres (rock, pop, jazz, folk, classical and steel pans) and instrumental/vocal group lessons, combined with general musicianship classes.
The regular Open Studio sessions for 11-19s will take place across six Saturdays per term at two locations - The Sage Gateshead and Redcar Community College.
Open Studio represents an innovative addition to CoMusica (the North East Youth Music Action Zone) which provides music-making activities to young people who might not otherwise have the opportunity.
Gateshead's Children's Choir and Youth Percussion, both weekly programmes at The Sage Gatsehead, are also part of Open Studio.
Youth Percussion sessions focus on learning and performing wildly explosive samba and other street percussion styles - no previous experience is necessary. The age range is 8-13 and new members are welcome.
Gateshead Children's Choir for 8-13 year olds meets on Wednesdays from 6.30-8pm. No previous experience is necessary, just a love for singing. New members are always welcome.
