Volcano Juniors
This ensemble opens up the doors to young beginner players wanting to learn the steel pans.
This is an amazing opportunity for young people to get involved, learning to play the steel pans is fun and enjoyable and no previous experience is necessary to be part of this ensemble.
The highly enthusiastic Musical Director, Lizzie Lowe, joins Volcano Juniors from January 2010, whereby members currently join on a term by term basis. From September 2010, we will be offering the committed young people the chance to become a permanent member of the group, which we have high hopes of developing into a sleek, urban, regularly performing steel band.
Volcano Juniors are a weekly rehearsing youth ensemble for 8 ' 15 year olds from across the North East and Cumbria. Members learn tunes of different genre by ear. As their skills progress and develop they will become involved in many performance opportunities including concerts and festivals.
The first term was a roaring success. In September the pannists performed for the 'Tune In' North East Music Launch which involved teaching visiting Labour MP, Diana Johnson, a tune on the pans. They worked towards a repertoire of pop music throughout the term and performed in Northern Rock Foundation Hall to a sold out audience. Parents and teachers also got involved, forming their own steel band!
The next short course will begin on 24th April 2010 and costs £30 a term.
