Young Sinfonia

Young Sinfonia is our classical youth orchestra.

Trained by Alan Fearon and players from Northern Sinfonia, Young Sinfonia brings together the top young string, wind, brass and percussion players in the North East and Cumbria. Members are aged 13-19 and usually play at the standard of grade 7/8 and above.

Over the past few years the orchestra has been conducted by international figures such as Garry Walker and Nicholas Kraemer and has been joined by distinguished soloists such as Howard Shelley, Richard Martin (Northern Sinfonia's Principal Trumpet) and the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2006, Mark Simpson.

Young Sinfonia performs in all of the amazing performance spaces at The Sage Gateshead, in addition to national and even international concert invitations.

What makes Young Sinfonia special?  We asked some current members:
' 'Meeting people from all over the region."
' "Working with different conductors.  We get Alan and then Nicholas Kraemer and then Simon Halsey!"
' "There is a real attention to detail and every single note matters."
